I was listening to the Bible at work the other day, and it really made me pause. We all know the story—Peter boldly tells Jesus, “I’ll never deny you.” And honestly, I get it. It sounded good. It felt real in that moment. But when pressure came, fear got louder than faith. And if we’re honest… how many times have we been Peter?
Maybe not out loud—but in the quiet moments where it would’ve cost us something to stand firm. The times we stayed silent to fit in, laughed things off so we wouldn’t stand out, or questioned what we knew was true just to stay comfortable. It’s easy to read these stories and judge from a distance, but they were never meant to just be stories—they’re mirrors. They reveal our tendencies, our fears, and the places where we’re still choosing comfort over conviction.
That’s what really humbles me. Because following Jesus sounds good—until it requires something from you. Until it challenges your comfort, your image, or your plans. And in those moments, bold declarations can quickly turn into hesitation. But instead of condemning Peter, maybe the real prayer is this: God, give me the strength to stand when my moment comes. Not perfectly—but faithfully.
Because that moment will come. A moment where standing with Jesus costs you something. And when it does, my prayer is that we’re not just loud about our faith—but that we’re rooted, grounded, and settled in Him.
